5 Technologies to Change Fashion

IMG_7122-1

My cell phone wakes me up in the morning, Google provides geographical directions to an otherwise unknown location demanding my presence, and I purchase basic, household goods (like paper towels, tape, shampoo, etc.) without leaving my home– thank you, technology! Technology’s reach is never ending and in the next few years, adaptations to the fashion world will be moving from the science fiction realm into our realities.

A fashion brand in Scotland called Pringle incorporated laser-sintered nylon fabric into it’s garments for Winter 2014 by using 3D printing techniques. Bands of the printed material were used to decorate garments in the form of cuffs for jackets, while larger bits were dedicated to creating diamond-shaped Argyle patterns on pullover and sleeveless tops.

Could the days of the human model be numbered? Scientists at the UK’s Manchester Metropolitan University have been experimenting with 3D body scanners and Hollywood-style motion-capture equipment to ultimately create chillingly realistic, flawless, digital renditions of he human body. These digitally created avatars can then be “dressed” in whatever clothing the programmer desires and then topped with all the movement and appearances of an actual model.

Color changing fabrics are on the rise, and I’m not talking the shiny embellishments we found frequenting clothing throughout the 80s or 90s. Color changing fabric technology is stemming from very scientific principles and is being tested at various universities throughout the United States. The US Military has already expressed interest in the technology in hopes to improve camouflage patterns. Though this technology does not currently frequent the marketplace, it is of no doubt that it will one day be available for the average consumer. After all, the Internet as a whole was originally created for military access only and look where we are now!

The concept of self-healing fabrics may seem something out of this world– its actually a lot more simple and realistic than that. Scientists around the world are working on fabrics that heal themselves under specific atmospheric characteristics. For example, fabrics that mend themselves under a certain temperature are being tested and improved.
You might be thinking, “how on earth could I fix my raincoat with heat? By placing it in the oven?” No! Do not place your raincoat in the oven! This kind of material is fixed by an act as simple as placing your clothes in the wash and then drier.

NFC (or Near Field Communication) is already changing the world of retail. This kind of technology allows retailers to offer wireless forms of payments, furthering their abilities to target marketing. Besides wireless payment capabilities, the NFC chip, if placed onto a clothing garment, could be scanned by the consumer (using their smartphone) thus leading the shopper to a look-book of possible outfit combos featuring the scanned article of clothing. Amazing!

#BESS – Blowtique Extravaganza Style Series!

Something extravagant happened last Monday night at Blowtique Mag Mile!

Blowtique’s Creative Director, Rhona Kane (@RhonaK on IG), blessed us with her expertise when she presented to Blowtique’s staff the latest hair trends in Europe paired most appropriately with make-up by one of Blowtique’s very talented stylist, Alexa Trovato (@Alexa9190 on IG).

“At Blowtique, we like to keep our fingers on the fashion pulse!” Began Rhona…

The Chestnut Bun!

IMG_4153IMG_4259

“The Chesnut Bun is a very natural, elegant, classic style– perfect for a formal occasion!”

The makeup to compliment was chosen with the same idea in mind: classic, elegant, nothing too over the top– simplicity is the best thing for this style– classic pink lip, classic eye.

High Pony

IMG_4198IMG_4258

“The High Pony (fixed into the front part of the bang) has been seen frequently upon the catwalk. This contemporary look works best with a good amount of product, dry texture spray from Oribe, allowing the style to be more plump and voluminous.”

The makeup for this look was chosen to compliment the “high fashion” feel this High Pony brings to the look. Dark, exaggerated lips and highlighted eyes are meant to pop on and off the runway!

Soft, Vintage Curls

IMG_4206IMG_4257

“This look continues to come back year after year!

To keep the style current, we teased and added a little extra brushing to soften up this look.”

A winged lash and bright, red lips was a no-brainer when choosing this makeup;

it adds a bit of sass and sexy to this very classic style!

The Chic Braided Top Knot

Prepared to be, well… blown away! After a hiatus on this blog, we are back with a bang to showcase an amazing style!

One of Blowtique’s lovely and talented stylists, Maria, created this masterpiece on our client who was attending a formal gala event last week.

Amazing Maria

We received superb feedback on the style so Maria kindly shared how she achieved the amazing results.

First, she started with Oribe’s Brilliance & Shine Shampoo & Conditioner.  Blonde hair needs extra shine and moisture and Oribe certainly knows how to do that.  The shampoo provides the sheen for ultimate illumination and the conditioner imports shine without weighing the hair down.

During the blow-out, Maria used Oribe’s Supershine Moisturizing Cream & Oribe’s Gel Serum.  Maria likes to “cocktail” the two together as it really helps to achieve a perfect, sleek and flexible hold for any blow-out.  Added bonus: they both provide UV protection and heat-styling protection.

Prior to styling the braid, Maria used Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray  as it gives “bigger, better, full-on glam hair! This spray provides a strong foundation that allows me to tease or backcomb the hair where it literally can stand straight up. The product is powerful but also gentle. I can apply the product all over the scalp and root area creating amazing height.”

After the braid and top knot were complete, Maria used Oribe’s Fiber Groom and Superfine Strong Hairspray.  The Fiber Groom is “perfect for the hair line as it achieves a sleek and smooth look. It’s also great for smoothing down pesky fly-aways and unruly frizz whilst also conditioning and moisturizing the cuticle, thus giving an overall smooth finish with subtle shine.”

Superfine Strong Hairspray is  “a great finish to any sleek and chic style. This product locks in any remaining fly-aways or frizz, whilst providing a strong, reliable hold to your style without dampening or dulling the hair.”

Viola!

Maria, and our other stylists, are available to re-create the “Chic Braided Top Knot” for any upcoming gala, birthday party, or just a fun night out!
